This road will cut directly through various parts of the town from Hillegossen, through Stieghorst and the eastern part of Bielefeld centre (crossing the beautiful stretch of park with the lakes (`Stauteiche'), parallel to the railway line). The suburbs Heepen and Oldentrup will also be affected by noise and air pollution: expected traffic volume: 48.000 vehicles per day! Most of these will be heavy goods vehicles `short-cutting' through the town. This means that the Bielefeld traffic network as a whole will have to accommodate much more traffic!
Bielefeld is currently in a very desperate financial situation and is aiming to achieve savings of EUR 60 million over the next three years by closing down youth clubs, kindergarten facilities, play areas, social establishments, by saving on schools, closing theatres and other places of cultural interest and making 1.000 staff redundant! Against this background it is an absolute scandal that the town is willing to invest EUR 40 million in the initial development of this project. The remaining EUR 80 million will be paid from central tax revenues. The only official remaining arguments in favour of the Autobahn are that it would attract more visitors from the area to the east of the town (!) and that the traffic jams around Marktkauf in Oldentrup would be avoided. Such jams could be more effectively mastered through local measures, e.g. additional lanes for left/right turns, traffic lights and the introduction of flexible working hours in firms and factories in the vicinity! The B66n is not the answer!
Giving your support by signing the protest list would mean very much to the many people in Bielefeld who are forced to battle against their local politicians on this issue. We thank you very much!
